Ashley Down OBs 16

WIDDEN took the Gloucester One honours in desperately difficult condtions.

Ashley Down went ahead with a penalty, but Widden played some good rugby despite the conditions with their backs prominent.

After 10 minutes Rich Green made a break before quickly recycling the ball. Ben Gardner kicked through for winger Kieran Dobbs to outpace the full-back and winger to bounce on the ball in the corner for a good try.

Widden kept up the pressure and were soon down in Ashley Down’s 22 with a scrum to the home side.

Number eight Matt Folley broke from the base of scrum and went charging towards the line but was caught just short.

He managed to offload to Ben Hannis to score in the corner to make it 10-3.

Ashley Down hit back with two penalties to leave it 10-9 at half-time. The score did not reflect Widden’s control but they increased their lead when a great attack ended with Kieran Dobbs going over in the corner.

It was all Widden. Chris Godsell went over but the referee was unsighted before Hannis went over for his second try.

With 10 minutess to go full-back Shane Tanner joined the line and went over for Widden’s fifth try before Ashley Down grabbed a consolation score.
