What's your favourite Gloucestershire day out?

Walking over Cleeve Hill to the White Hart in Winchcombe on a autumn afternoon.

And your favourite place to eat out in the county?

Lumière in Cheltenham. Book for lunch, get the tasting menu and take your time.

What's the worst job you've ever had?

My worst job was being a chicken "grabber" on a farm in Israel. In a dark barn full of noisy, smelly chickens you had to grab as many as you could to crate up for slaughter. Smelly and dangerous work – certainly enough to put me off intensively-reared chicken.

Have you got any unusual habits?

I don't think so – maybe others would disagree!

Who is your hero?

People that think and people that do are heroes to me. Talk is fine, but sometimes you just need to get on with things.

What book are you reading at the moment?

I've just started Cormac McCarthy's The Road. I'm travelling a lot at the moment and I'm going through books at a rapid rate in planes, trains and waiting rooms.

What was the last film you watched?

Breaker Morant, with the late Edward Woodward. It's a wonderful film about the real life and death of Harry "Breaker" Morant, a poet and soldier who was court martialled and executed during the Boer War.

First single/record you ever bought?

Sadly I think it may have been the Frog Chorus by Paul McCartney.

Facebook or Twitter?

I much prefer Twitter – @AdamHartScience
