TAMWORTH 1 FOREST GREEN ROVERS 2

Yan Klukowski became Forest Green's joint highest scorer in the Conference as a largely solid away display yielded all three points.

Midfield man Klukowski broke the deadlock in the 11th minute before a rocket from James Norwood lit up an otherwise scruffy Skrill Premier encounter.

A late red card for Aarran Racine and Matthew Godden's penalty had nerves jangling in the away dugout, but Ady Pennock's men had done enough.

Pennock was able to call on the services of Chris Stokes for the first time as Rovers boss, throwing the left-back straight back into action after being sidelined since November with a torn hamstring.

The opening goal in the 11th minute was so typical of Klukowski, who timed his run into the box with perfection and finished emphatically after Matty Taylor had done well to control and lay-off a high ball.

It took the midfielder to 46 goals in 151 league appearances, the same total as Alex Meechan but achieved in 48 fewer matches.

Rovers doubled their advantage on 27 minutes in spectacular fashion, as Stokes' cross was only partially cleared and Norwood produced a volley from 20 yards that fizzed past home keeper Cameron Belford and located the far corner of the net.

Peniket sliced a shot horribly wide at the other end before Tamworth substitute Jessy Reindorf saw a header from a corner blocked, but otherwise anxious moments were few and far between from a Rovers perspective.

That was until the 88th minute when a booming clearance by Belford picked out Godden and he went down under Racine's challenge, prompting referee Karl Evans to point to the spot and banish the defender to the dressing room.

Godden duly converted, and there was another scare in stoppage time when Russell needlessly handled Jamie Turley's back-pass and had to produce a fine stop from Godden's drive from the resulting indirect free-kick.
