Whitemead Forest Park has received a Special Distinction Award in the 2013 David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme, on top of the David Bellamy Conservation Gold Award they already hold for 2013/14.
The additional distinction was given to the park in the Forest of Dean to highlight specific examples of ‘best practice’ and as recognition of its work in promoting the region and boosting the local economy.
Facilities Manager Oliver Reece said: “We are delighted to have received this Special Distinction Award. At Whitemead, we are very proud of the work we do to promote the local region and to receive recognition like this is fantastic.”
The awards assessor commented: “I was struck by the park’s commitment to promoting the Forest of Dean through tourism and through its support of local community initiatives” which have “added a new dimension to the economic and social life of this part of Gloucestershire.”
