THE flag of St Michael continued to fly over Gloucester on St George’s Day, due to a bereavement, volunteers have explained.
Usually the flag with a blue cross on a white background makes way for the patron saint of England’s flag atop St Michael’s Tower in Gloucester on April 23.
Gloucester Citizen reader Michael Mansfield complained about the no-show of the St George flag on the tower which is the base for Gloucester Civic Trust.
A spokesman for the volunteer-run trust said it was due to fly the flag of St George on Wednesday, April 23, but due to a bereavement, it had not been possible.
In 2012, after a break of many years, a flag pole was returned to the top of St Michael’s Tower.
the trust flies the St George and the Union flags on appropriate occasions.
