A University of Gloucestershire graduate has missed out on Bafta glory tonight.

The university's student media project manager Lex Beckett saw a short film he helped create nominated for a Bafta and he attended tonight's glittering ceremony in London.

Island Queen, directed by Ben Mallaby, a film production graduate and former lecturer at the university, was one of five short films up for the prize.

But it lost out to the film Room 8 this evening.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Filmmaker Lex said: "I'm really pleased to be nominated and immensely proud of the whole team.

"We're currently in pre-production on our first feature film, to be shot this summer."
