A DRAMATIC tyre fire at a farm in Haresfield last night is not being treated as suspicious.
Firefighters were called to the large blaze in Colethrop Lane around 8.15pm.
Several hundred tyres were up in flames and Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue crews spent three hours tackling the blaze.
Residents living within a three to five mile radius were warned to keep their windows and doors closed and to remain indoors due to think black smoke.
Nigel Phillips saw the smoke from his home in Quedgeley around 8pm and decided to drive to Haresfield to find out what was going on.
"The smoke extended over the motorway and could be seen for miles," he said.
"A lot of people had gathered nearby watching staff at the farm desperately trying to douse the flames.
"Four fire appliances arrived shortly after.
"The smoke went very high. It was quite spectacular.
"But people living nearby were very worried."
The fire was extinguished around 11.30pm.
A spokesman for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
