A teenager has been sexually assaulted in Cirencester

Police are now appealing for information to trace the man who subjected a 14-year-old girl to a terrifying ordeal.

The incident happened between 5.30pm and 6pm on Friday, but was only reported to police yesterday.

It happened near the highways gritting station on Countess Lilas Road.

The victim, who is from Cirencester, was walking between Apsley Road and the industrial park when she was grabbed from behind by a man and pushed up against a white trailer.

The offender then removed the victim's clothes and committed a lewd act.

Detective sergeant Angela Middlewood said: "We would urge anyone with information to contact us immediately. Any details could be essential to the investigation.

"If you have seen anything, you're not in trouble, but your information may be vital to the case.

"We understand that this is a worrying time for the community and I would just like to reassure everyone that we are doing all we can to identify the offender."

Anyone with information that could help the investigation should call police on 101, quoting incident 73 of February 7.
