Tesco and taxi drivers in a row

A row has broken out between Tesco and taxi drivers over the supermarket's delivery lorries.

Drivers say they are being blocked in by the vehicles as they drop off supplies at the city centre store on Market Parade.

But Tesco have said they can't deliver around the rear of the store because of health and safety concerns.

Taxi driver Paul Hopkins, who represents drivers on the Safer Gloucester Nightsafe group said: "They are completely blocking the area. I know they've got a job to do but so have we."

Michael_AH and taxi drivers use bus stops and double yellow lines to load and unload so they have no cause to complain!

There is a positive note here for other road users and that is whilst these Taxi drivers' are allowed to "flout the law" by parking, not only on double yellow lines but on the pavement opposite Chambers, we cannot be harrassed by the "Parking Enforcement morons". Tesco drivers should though try to arrive earlier, though they can't be everywhere at the same time!

Tesco should have thought about their loading bay location before opeing the store. Instead they've decided to use a designated taxi rank, so I'm not suprised that the taxi drivers have complained

So it's all tea and sympathy on here for the poor old taxi drivers........LOL. I can't stand them, as said, they genuinely think they own the road.

The arrival of Tesco has only served to exacerbate a problem that has been evident for years. On one side of the Market Parade is a taxi bay with room for six or seven taxis which would seem more than adequate for this location. The fact that several more taxi drivers routinely choose to park up for lengthy periods of time on the other (double yellow lines) side of the road has long caused inconvenience, hold ups and angst, not only for delivery vehicles, but for people dropping off passengers at the bus station too. Get over yourselves taxi drivers - you may "own" one side of the road, but not both!

IT would be quite simple why dont Tescos deliver when the store opens a 6am there are not many taxis or other road users around at that time . Did not Tescos take deliverys in to concideration when they opened the store knowing those bullies probabaly not , like at Quedgely when I saw what they were doing I thought great the lorrys will go of the roundabout throught there car park and if busy thet can queue in there off the road but no . Instead they still send them down passed the OAP houseing and by a school , if they cannot get in the rest of us have to suffer as they park blocking the main road . Well done Tescos get your own wat dont care about anyone else . All these joys people have to look forward to on the grange road in tuffley they have stuffed up another local community there masses more lorry and car movements extra road damage extra pollution all for greedy Tescos

maybe they can use that time there blocked in thinking about how they do exactly the same to other people. Taxi drivers are the worst drivers for breaking the highway code!
