A tank transporter has broken down on the A417 near the Air Balloon roundabout, causing long delays to motorists.

Police have warned people there could be lengthy queues after a tank transporter, complete with a Challenger tank, broke down between the roundabout and Nettleton Bottom.

The incident, which was reported at 4.30pm, took place on the stretch of road known as the "missing link" because it is the only stretch of single carriageway on the busy A417.

The route is notorious as an accident blackspot and traffic bottleneck.

Only this week the Echo launched a campaign to Fill the Missing Link, urging people to get behind plans to replace the stretch with a dual carriageway bypass, known as the A417 Loop.

£250 million in Government funding would be needed to make the scheme a reality.
