Supermarkets hit by 'horsemeat' fears

MORE burgers have been withdrawn from sale at Asda supermarkets after another horsemeat scare.

The chain withdrew four of its burger lines yesterday as a 'precautionary measure' after horsemeat was found at a supplier in Northern Ireland.
Workers cleared the shelves of its own brand burgers.
A spokeswoman said there were 'no signs of horsemeat' but the products have been withdrawn as a 'precaution'.
It means that only Birds Eye and fresh burgers are available in Asda after the chain dropped numerous other products three weeks ago after issues with another supplier.
Meanwhile Tesco also removed products from shelves last night.
The supermarket binned thousands of packets of its Everyday Value Spaghetti Bolognese amid horsemeat fears.
A spokeswoman for the supermarket chain said there was no evidence to suggest its Bolognese was contaminated.
She said the product had been withdrawn 'pending the results of our own tests'.
The Food Standards Agency has started a testing regime but it has not said when its findings will be published.

I can't understand why all this food is being thrown away. Not everyone has an issue eating it. Such a waste of food considering the state our country is in financially

Why don't they just sell off the horsemeat stuff cheap, saying may contain black beauty or something, then if it does not see then dispose of it. I would buy it, it's just meat!
