A stunning Northern Lights was seen over Gloucestershire last night.

The Northern Lights - or Aurora Borealis - were a glorious green glow as this picture by Forest of Dean photographer William Henderson reveals.

William put the image on Facebook asking whether it was a UFO.

He posted: "Well tonight turned into something truly amazing. What was meant to be a simple night time shoot of the stars turned into something which I can only describe as AWESOME!

"This shot, taken at Pan Tod Beacon in Ruardean Hill shows the night time sky with a weird green glow. Is it a UFO? Is it the Northern Lights? Whatever it is, it was unbelievable! — at Pan Tod Beacon."

Ian Smith from the Cam and Dursley Astronomy Club also captured a great image of the Northern Lights taken from Stinchcombe hill golf course looking towards Gloucester.

Ian said: "I was trying out a new lens and looking South. After a few minutes it clouded so I turned North and saw them. They were vivid pink and easily visible to the naked eye. A once in a lifetime experience without travelling to the arctic circle."

So annoyed that I missed this! I travelled to Iceland last year, hoping to see this but it was too cloudy.
