The humble potato took centre stage in Stroud’s Merrywalks shopping centre on Saturday for the town’s 4th annual Potato Day.
Organised by Down to Earth and Transition Stroud, the event saw over half a tonne of seed potatoes available to buy to encourage people to grow their own.
There were also over 20 different varieties including organic, supplied by Dundry nurseries.
“We set up potato day four years ago and it goes from strength to strength. This was our busiest year yet,” said Amanda Godber of Down to Earth, a community organisation which supports people to grow their own vegetables.
The team distributed fact sheets and offered advice and trouble-shooting on potato growing .
