UNITE Modular Solutions Ltd is quite literally building on its success after winning the business innovation category in last year's Citizen and Echo Business awards.

The pioneering Stonehouse-based modular manufacturing company owned by The UNITE Group plc, is the UK's leading developer and manager of student accommodation.

It uses a continuous production line process adapted from the automotive industry to produce high-specification living accommodation.

The process is so efficient that a pre-assembled, lightweight steel framed, fully-furnished unit can be produced every half an hour.

Utilising modular techniques has undoubted benefits in terms of proven cost-effective savings of up to 20% versus. traditional building techniques, sustainability, speedier build time with reduced site traffic and savings on waste and labour.

UNITE's modular buildings provide the outward appearance of a traditional dwelling while embracing modern methods of off-site construction for the rooms that make up the interior.

A 500-bed development can go from nothing to a fully completed building superstructure in just 20 days. Modules made at the company's 180,000sq ft factory in Brunel Way Stroudwater Business Park, Stonehouse, can be rapidly installed at a rate of up to 25 a day.

UNITE Modular Solutions is continuously pushing the boundaries and breaking new ground.Using advanced modular techniques, in 2007, the company delivered its first 11-storey modular building in Bristol.

A first in its field, this property is now home to 277 UNITE customers studying in the Bristol area. Further to this achievement, UNITE Modular Solutions has since completed Blithehale Court in London. Home to 306 UNITE customers, this is the tallest building in the world to use lightweight steel frame modular construction techniques.
