GLOUCESTERSHIRE greats Courtney Walsh and Ian Harvey gave Ashton Ingham cricketers a day they are unlikely to forget.
Joined by international stars Inzamam Ul Haq, Gordon Greenidge, and Scott Styris in the Lashings World XI, the County's former cricketing stars played a 30-over match against the villagers at Stockings Field, and won by 109 runs.
Ashton had a thrilling start as man of the match Jack Carpenter bowled Harvey on the second delivery and had Cephas Zhuwao caught at mid-on in the same over.
Carpenter then caught Phil Leighton from a Gareth Rigden delivery for five.
Wasim Jaffer (119) and Ul Haq (104) went on to score stylish centuries, and Scott Styris added an unbeaten 56 off just 16 balls to add to Lashings' total of 321 for six at the end of the 30 overs.
In reply, Pakistani Yasir Arafat (2-15) removed both Leo Lockwood (0) and Andy Leighton (2) swiftly, before Andy Hamilton hit 45 and Tim Dulson scored 51.
Carpenter hit a quick 52 to entertain the crowd, but it was not enough as Aston fell 109 runs short with 212 for four wickets on the scoreboard.
At lunch, a Lashings player hosted a table each and the great Henry Blofeld was also in attendance to provide his unique style of commentary during the Lashings innings.
