THEY have certainly not been alone in enjoying an ice-cool lolly in the recent hot weather.

But while traditional flavours might prove popular with most, it would take an adventurous few to go for the otters’ treat of choice at the WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre.

Keeper John Crooks has been busy making lollies using ingredients including smelt, trout, minced beef and sardines for resident North American river otters Flo, Minnie and Ha ha.

“They enjoy playing outdoors in all weathers so this is a way of keeping them cool with the added bonus that the texture of the ice gives their teeth a bit of a clean too,” he said.
