Gloucestershire Police has launched a survey asking the public for help to shape the look of the uniform that officers wear.

Participants in the survey will be asked a number of questions about their thoughts on police uniform including whether it matters what officers wear, practicality, portraying a professional image and cost.

Chief Constable Suzette Davenport said "The appearance of Gloucestershire Police officers is an important part of how we interact with the public and helps shape their perception of us.

"Your thoughts are important to help us make a decision on the appearance of your police officers; - there are obviously a number of factors which need to be considered, for example cost, practicality and image and we are really keen to understand what matters to you, the public."

Um...deely-boppers, crop-top, ra-ra skirt, fishnet tights and stiletto-heeled sling-backs? That would make them stand out from the crowd. ;)

Why waste time and money on this survey ........... nobody else ever listens to what the public say / want !

Ask them to make sure they wear their hats or helmets at all times. This will make them easier to see, particularly as everyone seems to be wearing hi-viz these days. A helmet or hat with a chequered band considerably assists identifying who they are among the council workers, security people, road workers and cyclists.

Surely we can only comment on how police officers look if we've actually seen one recently?

White shirts. The black shirts seem to give them ideas. Hide more than dirt...

What does it matter what the police officers are wearing as long as they are doing their jobs properly? They can go around in black bin liners and pink tights for all I care, it's whether they are catching criminals and safeguarding the community that's more important. When you hear stories of corruption by police officers and some of them perverting the course of justice then what they're wearing at the time they're doing this pales into insignificance.
