A rugby fan collapsed during the Gloucester v Biarritz game at Kingsholm

A rugby fan who collapsed during the Gloucester v Biarritz game at Kingsholm on Thursday night has died.

The man in his early 70s suffered a cardiac arrest and was treated by paramedics and members of the St John Ambulance Service. Two rugby fans who are doctors from Gloucestershire Royal Hospital also gave him first aid.

The man was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where he later died.

A spokesman from Gloucester Rugby said: "The thoughts of everyone at Gloucester Rugby go out to the family of the deceased, who have asked that their privacy is respected at this difficult time."

Gloucester player Jim Hamilton tweeted: "My thoughts are with the person that collapsed at the game last night."

    Assume this was in the main grandstand - from The Shed we could see something was happening, and the paramedics and firefighters then stretchering somebody out from the middle of the stand. Very sad news - condolences to the family & friends of the deceased. TiG - how about you update your photo library - the image above is of the old grandstand, which was flattened several years ago. Just a thought.

    Very sad news, condolences to his family. To place an advert for 250 business cards into the text of this sort of report is insensative and crass! The standards of this (so called) newspaper now beggar belief.
