HOUSE to house inquiries are taking place after a woman was raped as she walked home after a night out in Gloucester.
The attack on the 29-year-old took place near Trier Way at around 3am on Saturday morning. She had been on a night out with friends at Liquid nightclub.
A man approached her as she was sat down in a porch area and then carried out the serious sexual assault, before walking off towards Gloucester Park.
He is described as black, aged between 20 and 30, of medium build and wearing a white shirt.
Detective Inspector Ruth Mather Atkinson said the victim is being offered full support while forensic, CCTV and house-to-house inquiries are carried out to try and identify the man.
"We don't want to alarm people but we would urge everyone to consider their personal safety when on a night out," she said. "Just try to be aware of your surroundings and of anyone who may be acting suspiciously. Do not engage in conversations with strangers and if you are concerned for your safety then contact the police."
In a separate incident, a Stroud woman was raped between Liquid nightclub and the back of GL1, in Bruton Way, on September 8.
City councillor Tarren Randell, who sits on the Safer Gloucester nightsafe panel, says the incident demonstrated the importance of an up-to-date CCTV system.
"This incident goes to show how valuable that investment will be in helping police. It is vitally important girls stick together and don't get separated on a night out. They should stick to well-lit areas and not take short cuts," she said. Anyone with information should call police 101, quoting incident 230 of November 10.
