GLOUCESTER popstar Nathan Sykes has received a ticking off from police after his band The Wanted drenched a poet in champagne.

The group were celebrating the birthday of band member Jay McGuiness when the party at the London Marylebone Hotel spilled out into the street.

Poet, Dr Todd Swift claims he was soaked as The Wanted threw champagne over him from their hotel balcony.

Todd - who penned episodes of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ and ‘Young Robin Hood’ in the 1990s - told The Sun newspaper: “What sort of example are they setting to their young fans?

“I came out of the gym and was walking down the street.

“Suddenly I was hit with a lot of liquid. It was not, as the police claim, a glass of champagne. It was a lot of liquid. It went all over my hat, jacket, shirt and face.

“I looked up to the second floor and there were three young guys laughing at me. One of them said, p**s and beer, mate.”

The Walks Like Rihanna hit makers were celebrating Jay’s 23rd birthday when the incident occurred last week.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “Police were called at around 12.20pm on Thursday, July 25, to a report of a man having been verbally threatened and having had a liquid substance thrown over him at a hotel in Marylebone.

“Officers returned the next day, July 26, and spoke to the party identified.

“It was ascertained that a glass of champagne had been thrown, but there was no evidence of who, if anyone, had actually done this or been involved in any verbal altercation.

“The victim was informed that without any further evidence there were no further lines of enquiry to pursue.”

Why didn't the police attend that night and take all 3 to the cells if none of them would admit it was them ? job would be done then.

Will The Citizen post a story next time Nathan (the one at the back who doesn't sing much) Sykes has a bowel movement ? I think 99% of people are sick of hearing about these muppets just because one of them lived in Gloucester. So did Fred West but we don't have a story about him every week. Though personally, I'd quite enjoy that.

why are this band even popular..their songs are utter trash and not one of them.is slightly attractive...especially the pouting skelator look alike the press tout as the 'hunk of the band'.More importantly it seems they are a bunch of arrogant disrespectful idiots...its not a bit of fun..i would like to see how most people would react to being soaked especially by these morons.

Not harmless fun. If they want to chuck champagne around, then throw it at each other. Pouring it off the edge of a balcony onto innocent passers by below is totally unacceptable. Almost as bad as some the recent antics displayed by that idiot Justin Beiber (i.e. spitting at his own fans off his hotel balcony). Those thinking there's nothing to this wouldn't feel the same if they'd been on the receiving end.

What a moronic comment thomas1996. F1 drivers choose to douse themselves and each other in champagne. This guy was minding his own business and was soaked by the idiots from the so-called band. How would you like it if you were just walking along and someone threw liquid at you from a window? It's tantamount to assault.

The formula one drivers can cope with a lot more than a glass or two of champagne over them so why can't he?
