THE birds are back in town – with peacocks returning to offer an unusual sight for shoppers at the Kingsway Tesco Express.

They are believed to have take a short flight from a nearby farm.

Free to roam where they like, the colourful creatures are understood to have flown in from the Chambers Builders at nearby Manor Farm.

Barry Kirby, the area's county councillor, said it would be an interesting idea to celebrate the regal birds by introducing them onto a coat of arms for Kingsway.

"It wouldn't be a bad idea and a bit of fun," he said.

"The peacocks are part of this area now and people are used to seeing them around.

"They can be a bit noisy, but they aren't causing any harm. They bring a certain sense of individuality to Kingsway.

"Not many other parts of Gloucester have the same luxury."

Manor Farm is home to two white peacocks and an Indian peacock.

Not causing any harm? Are you out of your mind? I almost reversed into one of the darn peacocks last week whilst trying to leave the retail carpark! The nearby 'farm'? You mean the run down, and quite neglected, old 'manor' house that stands a few yards away from the shops. The owners of the peacocks ought to take more care of them before an accident involving the precious birds occurs! The owners also have three dogs which have often been seen also roaming the nearby area; on more than one occasion the dogs were running along the main road, in busy traffic, outside the Asda store. Also, Am I the only one that has noticed the amount of bird faeces in and around the bike shelter by Tesco Express? Not pleasant for kids parking their bikes there!

A change to the Kingsway Coat of arms? Is a stolen TV and some vandalised cars on it not adequate then?

Watch out! Tesco will be putting these birds in the lasagne when they run out of horsemeat.

"They are believed to have take a short flight from a nearby firm." As the rest of the piece indicates, the final word should probably have been "farm"!
