ATTACKED: Justin Hudson, owner of Butlers Bar in Eastgate Street.

BAR owner Justin Hudson suffered a fractured jaw when a knife-wielding thief robbed him of £10,000 in takings.

Mr Hudson, who owns Butlers Venue Bar, in Eastgate Street, was taken to hospital after the violent attack, which he described as the "most terrifying experience" of his life.

It happened at 3.30pm on Sunday at a bus stop near Fever nightclub, in Eastgate Street.

Mr Hudson, 36, said: "It was horrific. I've run my bar for 16 years and nothing like this has ever happened to me.

"They fractured my jaw and I'm in agony with it.

"I will take this to my grave. It was definitely the most terrifying experience of my life.

"We were taking the money up to the bank and my supervisor had it stuffed up his jacket.

"A man was waiting at the bus stop and leapt out and attacked us as we walked past. He had a hoodie and all I could see were his eyes and nose. He was saying 'give me the money, give me the money'.

"He grabbed the money and then he was gone.

"You never believe these things are going to happen to you."

Mr Hudson was hospitalised for several hours after the attack.

Friends were yesterday wishing him a speedy recovery.

Pal Reece Baker, who worked as a barman for him a decade ago, said: "He's a nice man and a good friend.

"We are all in complete disbelief. We're all lost for words over what has happened."

The attacker was around 5ft 6in and was wearing a grey hoodie, grey jogging pants and red and white trainers.

Detective Sergeant Tracyann Curtis said: "We need to hear from people who were close to the bus stop and may have seen something.

"Witnesses may not have fully appreciated what was happening at the time but we would ask anyone who thinks they were there when this happened to call us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting crime number 264 of February 10.

Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

■ A 23-year-old man from Gloucester has since been arrested on suspicion of robbery and bailed until April 3.

Ok for all you people making derogatory comments towards Justin , I have known him since he worked as a glass collector in Butlers as a young kid , he has always worked hard and still does , he earned the right to buy Butlers from his own pure hard work and determination , NO ONE has the right to perform a robbery and an act of violence towards anyone yet alone the kindest most hard working person i know in the whole of Gloucestershire , he dosnt just sit back and employ people he also gets stuck in to whatever needs doing ( most managers just throw orders about ) , he treats his staff with the upmost respect and treats them as friends as well as employees , So think about what you say before sitting behind your screens with rages of jeleousy tapping away , get off your butts and go earn some respect and money if that what you want , if all you can do is say people deserve to be robbed because they earn money then you probably are just lazy idiots who want a good life but dont want to earn it ..THINK ON

In defence of Mr Hudson, I would like to point out that there are a minority of people amongst Gloucester's population that seem to 'assume' an awful lot about someone who runs their own business! As someone who runs their own business also, albeit on a somewhat smaller scale than Butlers, I can clarify that a handful of misinformed people 'assume' that just because someone runs their own business and it appears successful that they therefore must be 'minted', and so therefore 'deserve' to be robbed/threatened/stolen from/assaulted, for the sheer audacity of being successful, and actually getting off their backside and making something of their lives! A lot of the negative comments are in my eyes pure 'hear'say', with no substance or evidence to back them up, and indeed have no relevence to the subject at hand, which is someone going about his daily business and getting robbed at knife point in the middle of his own street. NO ONE deserves that, no matter what is or is not true about their personal life, or assumed about their personal life, due to rumour and gossip borne out of sheer spite and jealousy, in most cases! In the UK we seem to have an awful habit of kicking successful people when they are knocked down, and almost relishing bad things happening to them, because it's deemed 'just deserts'. In the US successful people are aplauded for being so, and patted on the back. Small town gossip about what Mr Hudson does with his well earnt and well deserved money should not even enter into the field, and neither should his sexuality. At the end of the day it's up to him how he runs his business, who he associates with, and how he spends his own money! He was the subject of a calculated attack at knife point, and THAT is the issue here! You simply cannot make an argument with unvalid points that are usually stemmed from jealousy and bitterness. Only the incident itself. I cannot see how ANYONE can say or think that this sort of behaviour is acceptable towards another human being?? If they do, then there's clearly some sort of mentality issue within them! Thank you.

RUGBYBAZZER............ Your making some pretty libelous comments on my private and personal life here!!!!!!!!! Id like to re-address the very kind points youve raised...... As for paid Holidays to Tenerife as gifts to members of staff, thats ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!!! Im in a very priviledged position ( some are envious ) to be able to pay for the holiday, andmy friends pay me back!!!!!!! which might i add, ALL HAVE done so!!!!!!!!!! You graciously mention i lavish gifts in excess of £10K on not only staff, but "good looking" friends of butlers... I would like to point out that we use Moore Stephens CHARTERED Accountants, who do all of our weekly/monthly/annual figures..... which are AUDITED!!! there are in NO way shape or form gifts of £10K to anyone... You also mention cars, as gifts also... we have had 2 cars used as "promotion" vehicles that myslef, as well as some staff have had sole use of, for obvious PRMOTIONAL PURPOSES... theses cars APPEAR in our accounts, authorised by my senior financial advisor.... THESE vehicles were, and were always OUR company property.. they have been since sold, and capital re-introduced into our accounts!!!!!!!!!!! AT NO POINT have i given anyone a car as a present.. if i did, i wouldnt of been able to sell it would i..??? You have written on here, someones skewed view of how i run Butlers.... SKEWED being the correct terminology!!!!!!!!

Ummm, rugbybazzer and Pitbull2010, you 2 guys are saying all sorts of 'nudge nudge, wink wink' type stuff and alluding to how you have worked for this bloke but want to remain anonymous.... You guys do realise that if you click on your username it takes you to your profile, right? Which displays the name you registered your account with. Which I'm guessing are your real names. So much for anonymous comment....

Pitball you do sound as if you are making the best sense of what you know but if you are still in employment at butlers all you need to do is look a little deeper. numerous gifts have been recieved by young males who are NOT members off staff and with each of these gifts exceeding £10k it does stretch the boundaries of generosity. Providing bar staff with a bonus for high alcohol sales is one thing, buying friends of bar staff new cars, allowing them to live rent free in your properties and indulging thier less than positive lifestyles for the sake of popularity is only ever going to end in trouble. IN NO WAY does he deserve to be subjected to such an ordeal, i just think 'surprise' and 'outrage' should be a little further down the list of descriptors for this incident. I couldnt agree more with your comments on the condition of Gloucester I am increasingly less inclined to admit I am from the city!
