Double Olympic gold medallist and explorer James Cracknell has officially handed in his nomination papers to stand as a Conservative candidate for the south west region in the upcoming European elections.
He joins five other Conservative hopefuls who have put their name into the hat ahead of the May 22 election, which is being held on the same day as the Gloucester City Council elections.
James, who includes rowing across the Atlantic and racing to the South Pole among his achievements, said running in the Euro elections was his ‘greatest challenge yet’. He said: “It is a great honour. We are going to be very busy over the next few weeks.”
