FOR sale - one floating hotel in Gloucester.

Christie and Co is offering the Oliver Cromwell Paddle Wheeler for sale.

The boat, currently moored in West Quay at Gloucester Docks, was built from a Dutch freight barge in the early 1990s and became the highest capacity cruising hotel boat in Britain.

Today, the Oliver Cromwell is being marketed for sale as not currently trading, and Christie and Co says it presents a multitude of opportunities for a potential investor — as a hotel, restaurant, bar, events venue or even as a desirable houseboat for those seeking an alternative residential lifestyle.

The four decks of the paddle wheeler offer a number of options.

There is an outdoor deck that can accommodate up to 50 people; an upper deck restaurant area with space enough to provide seating for up to 80 people, including a dance floor, stage and bar; a mid-deck which offers 14 en-suite twin-bed cabins and a bright lounge area looking over the paddle wheel; and a four-section lower deck which has eight double en-suite cabins, four cabins for crew, and four cabins used as offices.

The lower deck could easily be converted into other uses such as cinema room, library or beauty treatment rooms.

Whilst the boat is currently moored in Gloucester Docks, it can be towed to sea and to other ports in the UK or motor under its own power on the Severn Navigation, subject to appropriate consents.

Jonathan Hill, Director at Christie + Co in Bristol, says: “The Oliver Cromwell Paddle Wheeler is one of those once-in-a-blue-moon business opportunities. Not only does it benefit from its unique environment and positioning, but it presents the potential investor with a variety of business or residential, uses.”
