As part of a decommissioning programme, a large item of plant has been removed for the first time.

The generator transformer played a vital role during the operation, it converted the electrical output from the station to make it suitable for distribution
to homes and businesses across the UK.

Mike Heaton, Oldbury Site Director, said: "The completion of this project safely and ahead of schedule marks the first
successful step in consigning major waste items from Oldbury.

"Income from recycling the scrap metal will help pay for the UK
nuclear decommissioning programme."

The transformer weighs in at over 170 tonnes, contains more than 30 tonnes of copper and around 120 tonnes of steel,
measuring over four metres high, nine metres long and four metres wide.

Following detailed preparation work, the transformer was transferred to Sharpness Docks on a specialist low-loader
where it will be sent for recycling

i can think of many a place to dump nuclear waste, get our troops out of Afghanistan and dump a load there, then do the same in Gaza, Israel and anywhere else where people feel the need to blow each other up! Brilliant plan, plenty of scrap aircraft littering Kemble airfield so load them up, fit them with remote control then crash them into certain areas!

And that would be a contribution of about .000001 percent to the cost of waste disposal of nuclear waste.

Copper is at £4400 per ton making £132000 Steel is at £172 per ton making £20640 Making a total of £152640 The prices are an average of what I got per ton last week whilst weighing things in! It will most likely venture to C K Beckett in Barnsley who specialize in transformers!
