  • Nick Clegg - stay or go?

BELEAGUERED Nick Clegg, who is facing calls to quit after a disastrous election, has been told he should 'reflect' on the decision by Liberal Democrats in Gloucester.

Rebel MPs and grassroot Lib Dems are calling on the Deputy Prime Minister to resign after his party was annihilated in the European elections, with just one of its 11 seats in tact. It also faced massive losses in the local elections nationwide.

Gloucester city councillor Jeremy Hilton, leader of the Liberal Democrat group, said Nick Clegg’s future was ‘a decision for Nick Clegg himself’. Asked whether he thought Mr Clegg should stay or go, he said: “I am not going to comment on it.”

Mr Hilton added: “Nick Clegg has had a very tough job as Deputy Prime Minister. There are a lot of good things that we have achieved in Government that we should be proud of.

@honslknjklyt. Apologies, attacking religious dogma is to easy. (You actually raise a valid point, but I don't think the ECHR will ever force any religion to marry same-sex couples). Also religions can just refuse. What is the E.U going to do?....Also you make me laugh slightly. Firstly same-sex couples wanted to legally do sex. LOL. Lions? Penguins? Giraffes? Monkeys? These animals engage in homosexual behavior all the time, why should humans be in a separate category?. Its a shame there is not a human cage at local zoos, as I think humans have forgotten they are ALSO ANIMALS!. **I am going to be honest, occasionally you do make the odd valid point. I am here to learn from others, and to try and find the TRUTH just like everyone else. But religious arguments can never stand up to rational questions and logic. Its a pointless exercise. In the past I think we have clashed on same-sex marriage issues before, and I think you occasionally have homophobic over-tones. (Don't worry, I don't care, I believe in FREE SPEECH). But if you have issues with the natural world, then I don't really know what to say. If you don't want animals to engage in homosexual behavior, I suggest you go and interrupt some male lions in Africa that are at it right now!. Also if your a B+B owner then you realistically need to respect the fact that there is a remote chance that TWO MEN might book a ROOM for the night with one bed. Equality before the law is a good thing, its something that should be promoted and protected. Whether your disabled, old or young, black or white, tall or thin, smart or dumb, rich or poor. Ideally everyone should be treated the same before the law. (This includes rich people as well, who sadly currently use their wealth to buy some very very very good lawyers).

"God himself spends most of the book killing people, or drowning people, or setting fire to stuff." That has to be comment of the week, that one. Can't type straight now, for laughing...

And who was it who brought religion into this but you Socrates? This thread is about UKIP and as I have said it was not only religious people who opposed it. The downward spiral has come because first same sex couples wanted to legally do sex, then they wanted equal rights to couples, adoption, marriage and so on, so much so that it overrides the rights of businesses to act in accordance with their own conscience. It will not be long before it is forced upon churches, they say that it won't be but it will in time to come.

@honslknjklyt, Morality doesn't come from any religion. Abraham offering to kill his own son? What sort of twisted book is this? Oh that's right its The Bible. God himself spends most of the book killing people, or drowning people, or setting fire to stuff. Also how is assisted suicide a gradual step to murder? People have a right to die if they are in terrible pain or they feel their life is no longer worth living. But all efforts should be made to fix the pain, or improve the quality of life for the person before getting to this sad stage.

@RoadWombat, This is the issue UKIP raised. There are various protections built into the ECHR, and religious freedom is one of them. Also there isn't a massive amount of LGBT people that are religious, so I don't think its a massive issue. Also there is nothing stopping the tiny minority of LGBT people from buying their own church or other religious building and forming their own religious pro-gay sect.

Anyway, back to the headline!! I've never been a LD fan, but what finally did it for me was after the count, at least two senior LD peeps were on TV, saying, at least the LD's were the only ones to stand up to the calls for a vote on Europe!!!!! HA, so the electors want one thing, the 'elected members' either want another because of their own ideals, or think we don't know what we are talking about........JEEEEEZZZZZZZ, talk about total arrogance. They are supposed to reflect the electorate's views, not their own.

Yesterday,Boris of London claimed the hiding the big boys got was a peasants' revolt. I'm minded of the sculpture outside Harlech castle; https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Harlech_Statue_The_Two_Kings.jpg As someone once said: "They still don't get it!".

They spent a lot more than a day or two on it. It is not just religion that was against same sex marriage there was others too. "religion" is against thieving, murder and many other things, yet society and its leaders gradually dip in with abortion (murder) assisted suicide (a gradual step to murder) letting people off with theft (when the criminal gives a sob story) and so on and on and on. Our society is corroding because the laws do not uphold decency and morality.

If the coalition were a football team the manager would get the sack after their recent results not the assistant. Its Cameron that should go and take his backroom staff with him.
