WHAT a year it has been for new parents Kerry Major and Keith Lunan - a proposal, the birth of their daughter and now they are getting married.

The couple, from Innsworth, couldn’t believe their luck when they won their dream wedding this week.

They were named the victors in the Citizen’s Win a Wedding Competition at the Hallmark Hotel on Wednesday night and are now busy planning their big day.

“When they called out our names I just burst into tears,” said Kerry, 27, who gave birth to Harper Rose five weeks ago.

“We have never won a thing in our lives so never in a million years did we think we would win this.

“We would never be able to afford a wedding like this, especially with a new baby and with me being on maternity leave so it is a dream come true.”

Kerry and Keith met at work at Spirax Sarco in Cheltenham and started dating in November 2012.

Keith, 29, proposed on a surprise holiday in Portugal last April.

“We have known each other for years through work and I always said no to work relationships but we just fell in love and it went from there,” said Kerry.

“It all happened quite quickly but I think you know when you’ve met the one.”

The couple enlisted help from friends, family and anybody else who was willing to help them collect tokens from the Citizen over the past few weeks to be in with a chance of winning a wedding.

Forty couples entered the competition and 10 were named finalists before the winner was announced.

A host of businesses have offered their services including the Hallmark Hotel, Grand Jour Bridal Boutique, Plantation Florist, Daniel Morris Photography, Occasionally Tea & Plenty of Cake, Slaters, in Cheltenham, The Wedding Ring Store, Wedding Day Wagon, A Spoonful of Sugar and Little Quarme Cottages, in Exmoor.

“Being on maternity leave means that I have lots of time to plan the wedding but I am going to try not to be a bridezilla,” said Kerry.
