PARENTS and young girls in the Cam area have been warned to stay vigilant after a 15-year-old was offered a role in pornographic film by an older man.

Dana Wyatt had been walking home from her part-time job in Spouthouse Lane when she was approached by a man she had spoken to earlier in the day, who suggested she could work with him in the porn industry.

The Rednock School pupil then went home and told her mother Kerry Volante, who called the police straight away. The police banned the man, who knew Dana’s age, from her workplace and told him not to approach her again, but Ms Volante says this is not enough.

Now, she is campaigning to make such propositions a crime. She said: “I’m sick to the stomach by what happened. What he did should be a crime.

“All he was given was a slap on the wrist but now he is free to approach other girls and do the same thing.

“I don’t know if I’m going to change the law but I’m going to give it a damn good try. I believe he should be made to sign the sex offenders’ register because although he didn’t touch her, he’s done psychological damage.”

The mother of three and lifelong Cam resident, from Woodfield, has approached senior councillors including Dennis Andrewartha, will meet Stroud MP Neil Carmichael later this month and will also draw up a petition to have the law changed.

Ms Volante says the incident has had a big impact on previously outgoing Dana. She said: “It’s disgusting because she’s now too scared to go out on her own because she’s scared that she’ll see him. Now she can’t go to or from school on her own, take her brother to the park or even go to the shops. It will take a long time for her to get over this.”

Although Ms Volante has not posted anything on social media about the incident she is threatening to name and shame the man.

A Gloucestershire police spokesman said: “Although no criminal offence was committed, officers have issued the man with a Police Information Notice warning the man to not to speak to the girl. If he does and the victim makes a complaint he could be arrested. Our advice to anyone who may be subject to this type of behaviour and you believe that it is inappropriate is to call police immediately.”

Maybe she looked 18 ? Still not right to proposition her like that but still...

Can't see why hair colour should come in to it. Pretty pathetic that some of you are judging the mum because of this. At the end of the day this man propositioned a child. That is disgusting. This is how vulnerable girls get pulled in to child sex rings that we have seen in numerous cities across the country. Luckily this girl had the good sense to tell her mum immediately and whilst no 'crime' has been committed (I would still call it early grooming) it is no excuse for how this individual has behaved outside a school! Would you like this happening to your teenage daughter?

THANK-YOU for commenting on my hair but my children have no problem with it unlike you lot ... its been pink for the last 13yrs in memory of my best friend .. this article is not about me its about how this older man approached my daughter noing her age and still said inappropriate to her and YES it has caused psychological damage and she is getting counseling for this ... this artical is how i would like to try n change the law ... JUST BECAUSE HE DIDN'T TOUCH HER DOSE NOT MAKE IT RIGHT... The police say he has not committed a crime but this now means anybody can say what they like to a child of any age and get away with it .... Its disgusting n no difference to CHILD EXPLOITATION & GROOMING ... THE LAW HAS TO CHANGE for the safety of our children instead if sending stupid pathetic comments think about how you would feel if it was your son or daughter n try n help me make this happen.... i am sorting out a petition soon and would like enough signatures so our local mp can take to parliament n get the law changed .. hope you will all sign it when i post it on hear soon....

Can't see why people pick up on her hair! Has anyone thought that Kerry might have bright pink hair for the breast cancer 'run for life' event?

Her mother has pink hair. Yes, that would be an excellent defence for the man to use (assuming that he were to be prosecuted for attempting to get a minor to engage in sexual activity).

This woman reminds me of Heather Frost - Can you honestly take anyone seriously with pink hair other than those who are taking part in charity. ..Oh wait she is going to try a make cause.

If this girl has psychological damage its from having a mother with bright pink hair, although i would have thought this was more embarassing than anything else.

With a barnet like that, maybe he thought it would run in the family? I accept that she might have been a bit surprisedby the offer, but it's hardly a life changing event is it? I'm sure the young lady will have already come across far worse than that.
