MINCHINHAMPTON produced a disciplined and big hearted performance to overcome Newent Town to take a place in the County Primary Cup semi-finals.
A bright start saw Minchinhampton on the front foot with efforts from Jose Guerracampo, Giles Arnold and Joe Cox all testing the Newent Town keeper.
Minchinhampton then took the lead when Tom Stephenson made an incisive run into the box and the ball broke loose to Danny Sandell who lashed it into the net from 18 yards.
The second half began with both sides knowing that the next goal would probably shape the outcome of the match.
Newent pressed hard for an equaliser but found the back four of Steve Williams, Andy Thomas, Danny Matthews and Nick Charlton in mean mood.
Midway through the half the decisive moment arrived when a brilliant last ditch tackle from Danny Matthews halted a Newent Town player who was bearing down on.
Goalkeeper Lee Daniel squickly turned defence into attack with a monster kick forward which found Giles Arnold who then rounded the keeper before slotting the ball into the open net.
It was a fine all round team performance, in which Nick Charlton took the man of the match award showing great leadership and a winning mentality.
