When Mary Jones wrote to the Queen to congratulate her on the news that William and Kate would be having a baby she didn't expect a response.
But the 72-year-old from Orchard Park, in Twigworth, was bowled over when a letter with the 'ER' stamp dropped through her letterbox.
Mrs Jones, who writes poems for The Citizen's weekend poetry section, said: "I couldn't believe my eyes. I was so excited that I ripped open the envelope. I wish I hadn't now but I just couldn't believe I'd got a response.
"William and Kate are a lovely couple and they've captured our imagination so I thought I would write in and wish them all a good Christmas after their good news.
"But I know they receive a lot of letters so I wasn't expecting a response."
