ELDERLY residents put their grey matter to the test to surf the internet.

A group of over-50s attended a silver surfer session at Oakley Resource Centre to improve their IT skills.

Organised by Cheltenham Borough Council, the session was a chance to learn about the Gloucestershire Homeseeker website, an online tool to register and bid for social housing.

Councillor Bernard Fisher, cabinet member for housing and safety, said: "The system has been well-received since it went live last year. We wanted to make sure it can be easily used by all our customers."

Whaddon, Lynworth and Prior's Neighbourhood Project, runs several IT sessions at the resource centre in Clyde Crescent each week, giving elderly people the chance to practise using the internet.
