YOUNG performers told the Christmas story with a modern take at the Buttons Kindergarten nativity play.

As well as angels and shepherds, the production featured Spiderman and a chipmunk, while Jesus arrived on a scooter.

"It was a traditional nativity play with a twist," said Natalie Emmerson, who runs the Barnwood nursery.

The cast of 23 tots, aged from just one to three years old, sang and performed to an audience of parents, grandparents and well-wishers at St Laurence Church in Barnwood on Monday.

"It was fabulous. This is our fifth nativity play," said Nathalie. "We started five years ago with just nine children.

"Now we have 23 performing in our local church.

Nathalie runs the kindergarten at her Barnwood home.
