The Range store will replace What!

Household store What! is set to close its doors at the end of January.

The superstore, which sells discounted household items, is to close down its Eastern Avenue branch to make way for the arrival of The Range, the national home, leisure and garden retailer.

Speculation about the future of the What! store, which replaced the former Focus DIY store, has been rife for months since The Range confirmed its plans in July last year.

It was only this week that What! finally announced the store’s closure but they have yet to announce where they intend to relocate to.

Efforts are being made to find a new home for the popular store.

Gloucester City Council leader Paul James previously said that the city’s economic development team would work with the store’s bosses to help find them a new home in the city.

He said: “If we have got people who are popular and passionate then we would like to keep them in the city if at all possible.”

Ive heard the owner of The Range is related to the owner of What Stores, maybe it was amicable between them.

Nonsense. They announced the closing down sale in mid-December by a full-page advert in the Citizen. The next time that I tried to shop there, it was full to the gunnels with bargain hunters.
