A hospital worker who hit a cat with her car has saved its life by taking it to a vet.

The woman, who does not want to be named, was 'horrified' when she hit the young, black and white female cat as she drove into Gloucestershire Royal Hospital on Great Western Road, in Gloucester, last night at 10.50pm.

She flagged down police officers inside the hospital who brought out a box and she used a towel from her car to get the cat to Wood Veterinary Group in Quedgeley, where the cat remains.

It is being treated today, but the worker wants to locate the owner so that they can be reunited.

She said: "I was horrified. It was dark and I heard this noise. I couldn't just leave it as I don't want to see it suffering. I've lost one of my own cats before and the driver didn't stop so I know how it feels."

The owner of the cat can contact Citizen reporter Mike Wilkinson on 01452 698817 or by email to mike.wilkinson@glosmedia.co.uk.

lmedgeworth, very sad to hear that she has died. At least she was in her own home, in surroundings that she knew, and with the comfort of you being there.

Can we have an update on how the cat is, and if it has been reunited with its owner? The driver must have been distraught.

What a thoroughly decent person this lady is, she has restored my faith in human nature. Hope the cat fully recovers and is very soon reunited with her owner. I would be frantic if anything happened to my cat.

Sadly not every one is like this- my daughters cat was run over nr St Barnabas , 3 weeks ago.The vet ,despite trying( at a cost over over £600) couldn't save his leg.If only he was able to get help sooner they may have been abkle to do more (but nobody stopped to pick him up & he limped home -maybe hours later )

Bob-Flaps - only a pr*t for God's sake! It think Bob is a wind up merchant as most, if not all, of his posts on whatever matter are sneering, dismissive and insulting and obviously on this subject he's well in the minority.
