JOHN Higgins beat Judd Trump to win the Kay Suzanne Memorial Trophy at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester.

The Wizard of Wishaw and four-time world champions beat Bristol's Trump 4-2 in the Players Tour Championship event at the Quedgeley venue to land the £10,000 top prize.

Higgins said: "Judd missed a couple of balls in the final and I played well. It's always great to win a tournament, especially beating Judd in the final.

"I struggled at times yesterday and won three matches 4-3, the conditions were difficult so I just had to scrap through, but I played better in the final."

Gloucester potter Michael Wasley reached the last 16 of a professional tournament for the first time, but was defeated 4-1 by Anthony Hamilton who reached the semi-finals before losing 4-3 to Higgins.
