Henry Trinder will jet to New Zealand as one of five Gloucester players included in England’s summer tour squad.

The Cherry and Whites centre, whose international hopes have been hampered by a succession of untimely injuries, is joined by club-mates Matt Kvesic, Ben Morgan, Billy Twelvetrees and Jonny May.

Freddie Burns, who joined Leicester Tigers last week, is also included and will battle Danny Cipriani for the number 10 jersey for the first Test.

The touring party will fly Down Under today, with further players joining them following the Premiership final and England XV’s clash with the Barbarians this weekend.

England Head Coach Stuart Lancaster said: “We are excited about the squad we are taking to New Zealand and, while there continues to be challenges in selection, we will be well and truly ready for the 1st Test. It has a been good few days training and great to be able to work with a larger group of players in the lead up to the Barbarians game and the tour.

“With the Barbarians game and the Aviva Premiership final to come we will make our final selection once we know the availability of all players. This group will fly out on the Monday following the Barbarians game.”

Gloucester’s Dan Robson and Charlie Sharples have been named in the squad to face the Barbarians and they will be determined to impress on their final auditions at Twickenham to book their place on the plane.

George Ford and Anthony Allen have both been withdrawn from the squads due to injury while Anthony Watson will continue to be assessed after pulling his hamstring.
