Heavy traffic causes gridlock in parts of Gloucester due to roadworks on M5 and A40

Roadworks are causing problems in Gloucester

Comments (3)

HEAVY traffic is causing long delays for drivers in Gloucester this evening.

It is thought the problems are the knock-on effect of roadworks on the M5 between junctions 12 and 11a.

There is also one lane closed on the A40 westbound at Highnam where more roadworks are taking place.

Long queues have been reported on the A40 at Maisemore between the A417 Over Causeway junction and the B4215 junction.

Delays have also been reported on Eastern Avenue, Barnwood Road and Stroud Road.

Until they put a bridge over the Severn and canal from the bottom of Quedgeley to Minsterworth way you will always have problems at the best of times , as soon as there is a problem at Over , Hempstead joke of a by pass there is total chaos .

I heard that this was BT Openreach doing work to fix 400 phone lines in Highnam that has been off since Christmas eve, don't know if this can be confirmed, but if it is, then great timing guys. Just do it in rush hour! It took me 90 minutes to do three miles, just to get to the 'roadworks' and see a bunch of blokes surrounded by cones stood chatting. I leave at 06:30 every morning as well because of the diabolical traffic. How long are they going to leave us in the lurch. They can't ignore the terrible road problems we face on that stretch of a40 forever..

Appalling! It took me 2 hours to get from Quedgeley to Lydney. Every road was backed up & believe me I tried them all! Whover made the decision to close a lane at Over should be sacked. What where they doing? When I went past at 1750hrs (after leaving Quedgeley at 1630hrs and sitting in traffic) no work was going on. 2 trucks with orange lights flashing & no activity. I have been told that drain covers were being dealt with. If this is true why at 4pm when the light was fading didn't someone with an ounce of sense make the decision to pack up for the day? I leave at 6.30am every morning because of the awful build up of traffic but don't expect to have a 2hr drive home at the end of the day due to someone's incomptence. (JS)
