Foggy Gloucestershire

Drivers in Gloucestershire have been asked to take care and slow down as heavy fog continues to plague visibility.

The Met Office has issued yellow warnings of fog until 12noon today.

Temperatures are set to stay around 5C (41F), but it will start getting warmer this afternoon to around 13C (55.4F).

Another bumper crowd expected at Cheltenham Racecourse today for Gold Cup Day, and police officers are urging drivers to take care on roads.

Emergency services rushed to the Kingsmeadow roundabout in Cirencester around 6.30am today after a crash.

A green Vauxhall Meriva was involved in a smash with a blue Vauxhall Zafira. No injuries were reported.

Cricklade Road is currently blocked.

Inspector Bill Stack, from Gloucestershire Police, said: "It is another really foggy day today, and we encourage people to driver slower than they would normally.

"Use your lights and fog lights and keep a safe distance, bigger than you normally would.

"Slow down. It is not worth rushing on the road if you are going to end up in A&E."

citon....EXACTLY my thoughts entirely. And it's not anecdotal, just fact. Yesterday morning I saw thirteen cars, either sidelights or no lights at all, EVERY one was a woman driver. However, two trucks, driven by men, both with sidelights only. Given that sidelights are for parking, I really wonder why manufacturers allow the engine to run with just them on. Simple electronics to sort.

Aldertonian - in other words, on auto-pilot, and to a degree oblivious to what is going on outside of the bubble that is the confines of their vehicle... Not that they'd ever admit to it, if involved in an accident as a result. If (when?) they do have an accident, it is to be hoped that nobody else is involved.

Amazingly I saw many unlit drivers this morning, most male, as was the driver reversing whilst on the phone, lightless onto a main road. Berk! Male or Female the are idiots!

My take on this is that people leave home at the same time everyday in all weather conditions, and know they have to drive at whatever speed gets them to work/school on time.

Having just been out in Cheltenham, I can report that many vehicles are on the roads this morning with NO lights on. And plenty more only using side lights. Clearly these drivers think they're invincible / don't need their lights on to see where they're going / just plain ignorant. It's proper foggy this morning, even in the town centre - USE DIPPED HEADLIGHTS, IDIOTS.

Fog in Gloucester reducing visibility to about two car lengths. STILL, we have the "Richard Craniums" that think it is OK to drive either unlit or just showing parking lights. Add to that the Micra owner that wanted to mate with the rear of my car on Finlay Road and you have a nice mix. One surprise is that of all the unlit drivers I could see, they were all women. Naturally such a tiny survey wouldn't be accurate, so no perspiratons are being cast. ;-)
