Schools in Gloucestershire are “on track” to provide free meals to pupils as of September.
New Government policy means every school has to offer free meals to infant-aged children at the start of the next academic year.
The county was awarded more than £1 million of Government cash to make sure every school has the facilities it needs to provide the meals.
Councillor Paul McLain, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “The programme is on track to ensure that a meal is available to every pupil whose family wants one.
“In the great majority of cases that will be a hot meal.”
Where building work to upgrade kitchen facilities is not completed in time interim solutions will be put in place.
