    Not a teacher, Glos.  |  January 10 2010, 2:38PM

School notices go straight to the 'glosclosedschools' website as soon as headteachers make the decision and the notification. They'll make the decision based on the existing local conditions and the local weather forecast, and if it's a primary school it will also be based on nationally determined supervision levels, not the whim of the staff. Don't forget all schools are subject to inspections and can't get away with anything these days. BUT instead of moaning about things go and help your local school out, help them clear the site and the nearby roads and pavements you never know it might mean teachers from another school will be able to get their children to school and so be able to go to work themselves! It¿s not rocket science -communities need to help eachother and not just have the ¿they¿ should do something attitude ¿ everyone has responsibilities.

In answer to the schools opened in 1963 because teachers lived nearer to schools and had to behave - far, far fewer people had cars then so they had to live closer, they had no choice. Doesn't take a genius to think that one through does it? Most people make the choice of where they live based on what they can afford, where they like and feel comfortable or do all the moaners live next door to their place of work? Imagine if you lived in the forest and worked in Stroud, if you didn't have a car what would you choose - walking, bike, bus or train?

If I read one more person say tuffen up I am going to scream. It is my responsiblity for the welfare of my child and there is enough big brother going on in our nation without people like you thinking that our kids need to stand out in the freezing cold for 1 hour to get more tough. I know what is best for my children therefore i will not send my children to school in this kind of whether to be looked after by half the amount of teachers and i notice lots of schools are saying acked lunches only as no hot dinners available. I cannot believe that the older generation has forgotten what its like to be a child. My nan died at t5he age of 82 and she always said to wrap up in the winter and make sure them kids are safe and dont send them to school in this. I remember her saying that when i was younger so things havnt changed that much. bottom line, takeresponsibility for your actions, yours actions are your children
