Brave women are flooding Facebook with pictures of themselves without makeup in solidarity with a Hollywood actress who was slated for her looks at the Oscars and to raise awareness of cancer charities.

Kim Novak, 81, came under fire for the way she looked after appearing at the Oscars this year.

Crime novellist Laura Lippman tweeted a picture of herself with no makeup saying #itsokkimnovak and the craze took off.

Thousands of women have now posted pictures of themselves on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter but the focus has now turned to raising awareness of cancer and cancer charities.

Apothegm_ it's started but not quite as you have predicted, I've started to see quite a few pictures of blokes wearing really bad makeup spreading on Facebook!

How long before the make-up industry, traumatised by the reduction in their sales, suggests that females post pictures of themselves with LOTS of make-up on? (Don't worry, Kay - TiG can't stop the comments rating system being abused, nor can it stop spam posts!)

How is going without make up can raise awareness to cancer???? Its just one of these facebook fads that make no sense at all. Why not donate to cancer research or another cancer related charity? Its just another stupid idea that facebook puts about and those taking part should be ashamed. I have lost my nan, my dad and now my girlfriend has breast cancer and none of these stupid fads is helping in anyway. Give to charity don't just follow what facebook wants you to do. Do a charity walk or something that will really help, posting a photo, hows that helping anyone????

It might be rather braver for these women to post photos of themselves if they were ugly or disfigured. How brave is it really if you're young and beautiful?

I don't think Laura Churchill has too worry about weather to wear make up or not ,she is clearly a beautiful woman & enhancements are not needed

There is raising awareness and then there is actually donating money. I wonder how many women are doing both. On a different note, does any know how, on Facebook, i can block all posts with the word nominate?

I don't know why Mila Kunis gets flak on wearing no make-up. Really, make-up changes how you look? Who'd have thought..?
