Gloucestershire has been placed on flood alert with heavy rain expected to sweep through the county later today.

A spokeswoman for the Environment Agency said the county was predicted to be one of the worst hit areas in the region.

"We are expecting more rain this afternoon, and on Sunday evening into Monday," she said.

"This could lead to another 25mm widespread, with spot totals of 40mm over the Severn lowlands.

"The worst weather is forecast to affect the River Severn, River Avon, and River Soar catchments from 7pm this evening.

"This weather front is forecast to last approximately 12 hours."

And, it seems, there is to be no let up with more wet and windy weather expected on Monday and Tuesday.

Environment Agency teams have been mobilised across the Midlands to check on flood defences, clear any river blockages and monitor river levels.

They will be carrying out their work around the clock this weekend as the wet weather front moves in.
