A surge in fitness gadget sales has seen Gloucester placed third on the most health conscious cities in the UK.
Although Gloucester may be battling rising rates of childhood obesity, a new survey shows adults are taking on new fitness challenges with a vengeance.
Only Leeds and Cardiff have spent more on health and fitness gadgets in January than Gloucester, according to independent shopping price comparison engine, PriceSpy.co.uk.
The research analysed shoppers seeking health and sports equipment, such as sport watches, pedometers, heart rate monitors, cross trainers and dietary supplements.
Erik Lorentz, Head of Communications at PriceSpy.co.uk, said: “As January is seen as ‘the’ month to get fit, and we naturally saw a spike in searches around fitness gadgets, we were curious to see which city is serious about getting into shape.
“Unfortunately, we can’t track how many of these athletes keep to their new year’s resolutions.
“We were able to conduct the study as we price compare over 50,000 health and fitness gadgets, to ensure we have our finger on the pulse.”
