A MUSICIAN from Gloucester is top of the pops after his video went straight in at number four in the Italian charts.
Reggae artist Jamie Irie, from Coney Hill, is celebrating after his single 'Words Can Be So Simple' stormed the charts abroad.
He said: "I am very pleased with it, just to be in the charts at all is great, but to go straight in at number four is amazing.
"If I achieve no more than what I have already done, I will be a happy man, I am really chuffed."
He said the success of his single is owed in part to the passion Italians have for reggae music.
"They love it over there, it is their lifeblood," added Jamie.
"There are probably more reggae festivals in Italy than there are in Jamaica, they are mad for it, it is like the epicentre for reggae.
"We are currently organising a tour of Europe, including Italy, which is really exciting."
As Jamie tastes success overseas, he is adamant that he will stay true to his roots in Gloucester.
He said: "A lot of people in Gloucester think that I'm washed up, but this shows that I am now swimming with the big sharks.
"My dad always told me never to give up, so I haven't. I am continuing to work with artists in Gloucester and I will always look in the area for new talent to work with."
Jamie has now linked up with Canadian producer R Cola, who played a show with Jamie at Lakota, in Bristol on Saturday.
He said: "Jamie sent me his stuff at the start of the year and I was really impressed that this white guy from Gloucester was so good.
"I am going to be producing half of Jamie's album with him which is something we're both looking forward to."
