Gloucester Rugby have confirmed that hooker Andy Titterrell has followed Welsh utility back Matthew J Watkins in leaving the club.

The former British and Irish Lions tourist joined Gloucester from Sale Sharks in the summer of 2007.

He struggled to make an impact and fell behind frenchman Olivier Azam in the battle for the number two shirt.

Watkins last month agreed a two-year deal with Newport Gwent Dragons and Titterell is now free to do the same.

Head coach Bryan Redpath explained that as neither player was guaranteed first team rugby, they were free to explore options away from Kingsholm.

"They're both great lads but I couldn't, in all honesty, make any promises to them in terms of chances in the first team," said Redpath.

"Therefore, we told them both that they were free to explore other options and MJ has obviously sorted himself out first but we'd like to wish them both well for the future."

Let's remember he only toured with the Lions because of Woodward's biased selections in 2005. An enthusiastic player, but never good enough at the highest level.

Shame to see him leave. But Olly has a better presence on the pitch & hopefully he will attract too much of refs attention this year.

Blimey Vokl you've got hight standards if you think that someone who's played for England and toured with the Lions has "never cut it at all". Have you achieved that much in your profession of have you never cut it either?

Too small for a 2 nowadays. Do you realise that JSD is bigger than him and we wouldn`t have him as hooker ! Never cut it at all maybe he can reinvent as a 7
