Gloucester Rugby: Burns set to miss out

Freddie Burns could be one of the biggest casualties when Stuart Lancaster names his England Elite Player squad today.

According to reports the out of form Gloucester fly-half will be demoted to the England Saxons squad with Northampton Saints’ Stephen Myler taking his place in the senior set-up.

It would be just the latest blow to Burns who is out of contract at the end of the season and recently endured a spell on the bench.

He had established himself as Owen Farrell’s deputy on the international stage but has fallen down the pecking order following a string of under par performances for the Cherry and Whites.

It is widely expected that George Ford will replace Toby Flood in the squad but the inclusion of Myler at the expense of Burns comes as a surprise.

But there will still be a sizeable Cherry and White contingent in the EPS with red hot wing Jonny May earning a call-up.

This is all well and good but what a club like Gloucester Rugby really should be doing is to ensure that Rupҽrt Hardҽn, our first choice and most talented tight head prop, starts as many games for Gloucester as is possible.
