Volunteers working at Gloucester Prison, until it closed two weeks ago, will be encouraged to help out elsewhere.
Gloucestershire Association for Voluntary and Community Action (GAVCA) has said that it does not want to lose the valuable help of volunteers.
It is looking at how they can be enlisted with other projects.

The place could be turned into a heritage/small business centre. There are many artisans and creative types who would welcome being able to work together, hopefully for a realistic rent. There are also kitchens, workshops, toilets etc. already on site and ready to go.

In a strange way(no pun intended) I think it's sad to see the loss of Gloucester Prison, from a historical view(only) I have no doubt that it will now stand idle for many years. In the meantime, why not make some money out of it? I for one would love the chance to look around the buildings,(and be able to walk out afterwards) and I am sure many others would too. Who better than these volenteers to be tour guides, surely a small admission fee,per person would be acceptable. What a fantastic chance to personally look first hand, at some of the cities history, before it,s dacay prevents it.
