CAPTAIN Matt Coupe has left Gloucester City to join Southern League Premier Division club Chippenham Town.

The former Wales Under-21 international has been a key member of the Tigers squad for the past four seasons affter joining for a second spell from Bath City.

The combative central defender has been a key component of the side that has successfully battled agianst relegation from Skrill North and reached the FA Cup first round for the past two seasons.

Coupe also had a brief spell with the Tigers as a loan player in 1999 and made a total of 164 appearances in a yellow and black shirt, scoring one goal.

The 35-year-old held talks with Tigers boss Tim Harris at the end of the season and the pair agreed to part ways.

Harris said: "I have known Matt for many years and for someone to play over 700 games at the level he has is a great achievement.

“At this stage of his career and in the interest of both parties we have agreed to part company.”

“Matt's has put in some really good performances since I returned to the club and has certainly played a part in keeping us in the Conference North.”

“He has been a pleasure to work with and I sincerely wish him every success with Chippenham Town.”
