GLOUCESTER City Council has confirmed chief executive Julian Wain will be leaving his job on March 31 as part of a cost-saving plan.
Communication between senior staff and politicians has been criticised in a recent Local Government Association review too.
The Gloucester Citizen revealed Mr Wain was poised for an exit and yesterday the council said his departure was part of a review of senior management which aims to make additional savings on top of those already made.
Leader of the council Paul James said: “We have already delivered more than £7.5million of budget savings over the last four years. However, as council budgets continue to come under pressure, we will need to further reduce costs and we are looking at every option to minimise the impact on services.”
Mr Wain hit the headlines in January when Private Eye published details of his partner Sadie Neal’s appointment to a £51,000-a-year city council job. A review found no wrongdoing in the process of her appointment.
