Proving that class is permanent, 37-year-old Lee Hughes proved too canny for Chester as Forest Green made it back-to-back wins in the Skrill Premier.

Hughes' first two goals in Rovers colours, either side of a James Norwood strike, maintained the hosts' unbeaten start to 2014.

Chester ought to have scored when Ross Killock's looping header was clawed back into the danger area by Sam Russell and Craig Lindfield could only prod tamely at the home keeper from the rebound.

Norwood responded with a surging run as conditions worsened, and the breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when Chester failed to clear a hanging ball and Hughes found himself with time and space inside the box to locate the far corner of Danby's net.

Forest Green were then indebted to a last-gasp challenge by Jamie Turley after Jamie Menagh had wriggled his way into space and worked a shooting angle.

The home side needed a second goal, and it arrived in the 65th minute courtesy of Hodgkiss' lay-off and an emphatic low finish by Norwood that took his tally for the season to 12.

Norwood tried to get on the end of a counter-attack he had started, only to collide with team-mate Marcus Kelly, before Hughes fired over following a clever jink inside his marker.

Veteran Hughes was not to be denied for long though, and he made it 3-0 on 73 minutes with a glorious curling shot from the edge of the area.
